Nominate Yourself for the Board of Trustees: Geographical Representation Needed!

The Public Education Health Trust (PEHT) Board of Trustees Seat D is now open for election. If you’re interested in getting involved and making a meaningful contribution, we’d love to hear from you.

Serving as a Trustee is a great opportunity to lead, grow, and support our mission — and you don’t need prior experience to apply. We’ll provide all the guidance, training and support you need, every step of the way.

Trustees meet quarterly to guide decisions that impact the Trust and plan members, and some travel may be required. The term for Seat D runs July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2029.

To qualify, nominees must be participants of the Trust by virtue of their status as an employee. Broad geographical representation is a requirement for the PEHT Board of Trustees. The eligible candidate must be a participating member from a school district outside of Anchorage and Southeast Alaska.

If you’re interested, submit a biography of no more than 100 words by March 31, 2026, to Rhonda Prowell-Kitter, CFO at rpk@pehtak.com. If you have any questions, call 907-274-7526.

Voting opens April 3 and closes April 30, 2026, with results available on May 1, 2026.

Coming soon! Open Enrollment: May 4 through May 29, 2026!

Open Enrollment is almost here!

This is your time to review your health plan options and decide what works best for you in the coming year. Keep an eye on your email and the PEHT website for new resources and everything you need to make informed decisions.

What Happens After a Healthcare Visit?

After you see a provider, they send a payment request — called a claim — to your health plan. This starts the process of figuring out what’s covered and how much your plan will pay.

Once that’s done, you’ll receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). Don’t worry — an EOB isn’t a bill. It’s a visit snapshot that shows what services you received, what your provider charged, what your plan paid, and any amount you may owe the provider. It’s a good idea to look it over to make sure everything matches your experience.

If you do owe something, you’ll get a bill from your provider. Check that the date of service and the amount due match your EOB.

If you need help understanding a claim, EOB, or bill, call the member number (866-247-1443) on your benefits ID card for help.

At your visit, the provider’s office will use it to confirm your coverage, which helps prevent billing issues.

Non-Emergency Medical Travel Benefits

Alaskans know how important medical transportation can be. Did you know that benefits may be available for nonemergency travel when services for an illness or injury aren’t
available locally?

You may be eligible for a coach class airline ticket, with at least a 14-day advanced fare purchase, or a passenger ferry ticket. Transportation should start from the place where the illness or injury occurred to the nearest place where treatment can be provided.

All non-emergency travel must be pre-approved by PEHT. Use the “PEHT Non-Emergency Medical Travel Request” form found at pehtak.com/forms/travel-request-form. On the form, a local provider must certify that the services needed aren’t available locally.

Transportation benefits are limited to two round-trip tickets per calendar year, per covered person. These benefits don’t apply to dental benefits, vision services, routine exams, or preventive exams. If your request is approved, the reimbursement amount is subject to your applicable deductible and coinsurance.
